Sportfishing out of Costa Rica was on fire in January 2019.
January was a month of sportfishing heaven for the clients and crew onboard the Sea Hag. Offshore fishing was so hot sailfish were just flying out of the water.
The Sea Hag started off the new year with our new crew. We welcomed aboard Captain Cachi and first mate Mako. Captain Cachi came to us from a boat in Los Suenos. There he was a relief Captain and mate for many years. We decided to take a chance and make him our main Captain. We anticipate catching countless fish and working many years together.
Captain Cachi showed us how he got his name by putting clients on the fish. Mako then helped clients catch and release 50 sailfish for the month, that is not counting the ones that got away. Marlin were also biting, making it possible to release 5 blue, 3 striped, and 2 black. The other fish species on the list were 42 Dorado, 20 Yellow Fin Tuna, and 6 nice size Wahoo. Yes, I said Wahoo. Though the species is not very prevalent here we do still catch them occasionally. Not a bad first month together I would say.
Our clients were very happy with the crew, the experience, and the fish. We had a couple of men who had never caught a Marlin. Now those men have the pleasure of telling a great story of reeling in their first Marlin. Mako even made Sashimi out of the yellowfin for clients willing to try Sushi. There is nothing like truly fresh yellowfin. If sushi is not your thing then maybe try some Mahi (Dorado) ceviche for a snack.
Costa Rica is a beautiful country that gives us access to some of the most amazing fishing grounds in the world. So, if you are looking for a fishing trip of a lifetime. Give us a call.
